In keeping with its long standing tradition of honoring the World War II-Era "Devils Brigade", the First Special Forces Group (Airborne) celebrated the 63rd Annual Menton Days Celebration during the first week of December 2007.
The week of celebration commemorated the combined American-Canadian First Special Service Force, a crack unit that conducted covert operations during World War II from 1942-1944 and was disbanded in Menton, France, Dec. 5, 1944. As part of the yearly tradition, the Group hosts members of its Canadian Forces sister unit, the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry.
Although the unit was only active for a couple of years, its heritage still continues - every American and Canadian special operations unit can trace its lineage back to the First Special Service Force.
